DEBRE GENET ST MARY

In the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, one God, we welcome you to the Debre Genet St Mary Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church’s website. Our church is located in Auckland, New Zealand.

WELCOME HOME

Debre Genet St Mary Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church in, Auckland, New Zealand, is a branch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church. The Holy Synod is headed by Their Holiness Abuna Matthias, Patriarchs of Ethiopia. His Eminence Abuna Lucas is the present Archbishop for our Diocese. Debre Genet St Mary Church was established in 2005 at the request of members who reside in Auckland and wished to establish a local church community. We began this mission in a rented space in Avondale, Auckland with 30 members.

We now have over 100 members in the urban area. At present, there are two Priests and 4 Deacons who regularly provide sacramental services to the community, in addition to visiting Priests from all over the world. Our services are performed in Amharic and Ge’ez, the Classical language of Ethiopia. Our door is always open, and we are committed to serving the greater community at large; bringing the Gospel to the corners of the world.

Baptism Services

“And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” Matthew 28:18-20
